Privacy & Cookies

HK Bargain is a community site for sharing deals. We store what you need for an account and whatever you post, we count anonymous visits to know which deals are popular, and — to keep the lights on — some shop links are affiliate links, which can earn us a small commission when you buy something at no extra cost to you, plus the site carries a small number of ads. We never sell your data.

• Your account: if you sign up, we keep your email address, username and avatar so you can log in and post. Accounts run on Supabase.
• What you post: deals, comments, votes and forum posts are public by design — they are what the site is for.
• Live chat: chat messages are public and kept at most 7 days. If you type a name, it’s remembered on your own device; signed-in members’ messages carry their username. To enforce the chat’s speed limit we also keep a scrambled (hashed) marker of your device or connection for a few minutes — it can’t be read back into an address or an account.
• Saved deals: your wishlist is stored with your account so your saved deals follow you when you sign in.
• Your preferences: things like light/dark mode and your cookie choice are remembered on your own device.
• Feedback messages: if you contact us through the feedback button, we keep your message (and any contact details you include) so we can read it and reply.

We keep things as light as possible. The essentials on this site are:

• Login session — keeps you signed in.
• Cookie choice — remembers whether you accepted this banner.
• Display preferences — dark mode.
• View tracking — a temporary marker so a deal you already viewed isn’t counted twice.
• Chat pass — when you pass the human check for chat, a 12-hour ticket is kept on your device so you aren’t asked again right away.
• Advertising — when ads are showing, Google’s ad system may set its own cookies (see the Ads section below).

• Vercel Analytics counts anonymous page visits — enough to know which pages are popular, without following you around the internet.
• Cloudflare Turnstile runs the “prove you’re human” check when you sign in, sign up, post a deal or write a comment.
• Page-speed measurements are collected anonymously (and only for about 1 in 10 visits) so we can keep the site fast.

Some “View Deal” links to shops are affiliate links. When you click one, our affiliate partner — Involve Asia (Shoplink) — may set a cookie so the shop knows the click came from here — if you then buy something, the shop pays us a small commission. This costs you nothing extra and never changes the price you pay. It simply keeps HK Bargain free to run.

To help cover running costs, HK Bargain shows ads served by Google AdSense. When ads are shown, Google and its partners may use cookies or similar identifiers to serve and measure those ads — including ads personalised to your browsing, depending on your settings and local law. This is Google’s own system operating under Google’s policies; we never hand it your account details or anything you post.

You can turn off ad personalisation in Google’s Ad Settings — you’ll still see ads, just not personalised ones. More on how Google uses data from sites that use its partners’ services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

The language switcher uses Google’s translation widget. Text you choose to translate is processed by Google under Google’s own terms and privacy policy.

If you have a question about this policy, or want something about you corrected or removed, use the Share Feedback button on the homepage — messages reach the team by email and we read every one.
